Overview

Metair Investments Limited (“Metair”) is an international JSE-listed company that manufactures, distributes, and retails energy storage solutions and automotive components.

Metair’s headquarters is based in Johannesburg, from where it manages the company’s operations across five countries.

Challenges

As a JSE-listed company, Metair is driven to execute an effective and agile transformation strategy for its headquarters and operational counterparts across South Africa.

However, in the absence of expert advice and guidance and insufficient reporting tools, it was challenging for the company to maintain its compliance in terms of the Amended Codes of Good Practice, as well as effectively plan, manage, and measure its transformation goals.

PROJECT TRANSFORMATION PLANNING 

To ensure that measurable and reachable objectives were established, a practical project plan was put in place to manage timelines and responsibilities around the company’s transformation strategy.

In an effort to measure and oversee the company’s transformation strategy and its objectives, BEE123 established Transformation Committees within the company and its subsidiaries in order to conduct quarterly reviews that were chaired by BEE123.

Results 

REVIEW SESSIONS 

The review sessions enforced accountability on all parts of the organisation and enabled the company to effectively measure its transformation progress.

CLIENT RETENTION 

The company’s Level 1 B-BBEEE status has helped them to maintain large contracts with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) clients, such as Toyota.

Large OEM clients typically have stringent B-BBEE requirements when onboarding and monitoring vendors during their contractual agreements and processes.

In partnership with BEE123, the company has been able to comply with OEM’s requirements and standards, leading to the retention of clients and attracting new projects.

REPORTING TECHNOLOGY 

BEE123’s interactive software enabled the company to better manage its transformation strategy, streamline reporting requirements and execute its procurement analysis.

The consolidation tool made it especially easy for the company to combine reporting efforts across 11 subsidiaries onto one scorecard at a push of a button.

COMPLIANCE ACHIEVEMENTS 

At the inception of the relationship in 2017, the company was a Level 4 contributor. However, since BEE123’s involvement, the company jumped 3 Levels and achieved Level 1 in 2020 and has maintained its status to date.

Additionally, the implementation of the YES123 programme across 2 of the company’s subsidiaries, strengthened the company’s position in the market.
